Burgaw NC
Burgaw, NC, is located in Pender County about 30 minutes from Wilmington just off of I-40. According to TownofBurgaw.com:
"Burgaw was named after a group of Indians that resided along a creek in Western Pender County, NC. Burgaw grew from a Wilmington & Weldon Train Depot and was incorporated in 1879. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places."
Burgaw's brick buildings, 100 year-old oaks, and historic downtown make it a pinnacle of small-town charm.
Visitors can experience the rich historical background of Burgaw and Pender County by visiting historical sites such as the Penderlea Homestead Museum and Burgaw Railroad Depot.
In addition to historical sites, Burgaw is home to the North Carolina Blueberry Festival, which is held in late June in conjunction with the ripening of the blueberries. Arts and crafts, baked goods, and food (including blueberries!) are sold. Pender County blueberry production, a $5-6 million market, is second in the state for blueberry production. In 2008, the festival was expanded by a day and complimented by a number of other events, including the Tour De Blueberry, a circular bike race sponsored by Cape Fear Cyclists; Blueberry Open Golf Tournament; and the second annual Historic Depot Antique Show.
While Burgaw is a nice place to visit, it is also a great place to live, especially if you enjoy country living. In Burgaw, the cost of living is 16% below the national average. This is 10% more than the nearest city of 50,000+ residents (Wilmington). The most common work industries in Burgaw are Construction, Educational Services, Health Care, Public Administration, and Social Assistance. The area is quiet and there is plenty of room to grow a family, have horses, and/or a large garden. Yet, if a person needs a change of pace, the beach is less than an hour away.
